Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet neighborhood within the West Island of Montreal is one of those "sleepy" place. For those who don't know, the West Island generally believe that it's an distinct island that lies west of Montreal however, this part of West Island is home to anything and everything that is found in Lachine west to the City of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on West Island. But this is not the truth. Brugel had a childhood in Courtice close to Oshawa in Ontario. Initial plans were to be the best performer in the world, however, she simply outgrew her dance partners. According to an article in The Toronto Star she admitted In heels I'm 6'1 inch. In the case of Brugel it was a suggestion by a high school drama teacher who encouraged her to go in the right direction. It was suggested that she audition for a part in her school's production. After some trial and error the role, she was chosen as the main character in Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program which she graduated with A Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in 2000. Since then, for the more than 20 years that followed, Brugel has landed roles on over 60 shows on both screens, receiving the most media attention, when she landed the character of Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel is the only Canadian actress in the season 1 and was only seen on occasion.
